Wow, we are doing such a great job using our bows!!
Here's what we did today!
1. Practiced rhythm patterns in bow tubes. We played these kinds of notes using down and up bows:
Whole Note (4 beats)
Half Note (2 beats)
Quarter Note (1 beat)
Eighth Note (2 for each beat!)
Plus some other fun patterns! (pepperoni pizza, strawberry ice cream)
2. Reviewed Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Some students even played a little of it for the class with bow- great work!
3. Reviewed the names of the lines on the staff:
Violins (Treble Clef) Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge
Violas (Alto Clef) Fat Alley Cats Eat Garbage
Cellos/Basses (Bass Clef) Grizzly Bears Don't Fly Airplanes
To figure out the space notes, just use the musical alphabet (ABCDEFG) to figure out which letter falls in between the two lines.
4. Turned to Ode to Joy (#86 in the book) and labeled notes, thinking about how notes were moving in steps-- up? down? Stay the same? We got all the way up to the first group of half notes. We tried playing that much of it. We'll play this piece in our next concert, in February!!
